Former NBA guard, Russ Smith, drops 81 points in China and averaging 61.4 points per game.
Russ Smith was a Louisville guard hoping to be an NBA star. Russ in his fours years of being at Louisville went from role player to a dominate scorer on the team. There he kept scoring 20-35 points per game when it mattered. Russ was drafted in the second round by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 47th pick. Although with previous trades Russ Smith was a member of the New Orleans Pelicans. He then signed his multi-year contract. On January 12, 2015 Russ Smith was acquired by the Memphis Grizzlies, along with Jeff Green and a TPE, from the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for Quincy Pondexter, Tayshaun Prince, a 2015 2nd round pick (MEM own), a conditional 2019 1st round pick (MEM own) and cash. Russ Smith was balling out for the Grizzlies in the 2014 NBA Summer League. Russ kept getting 20, 30 point games including a game winner and led the Grizzlies to the 2014 Summer League NBA Championship. Although in the NBA regular season Russ barley touched the court and only averaging 4.2 points in 6 minutes a game. In the 15-16 season Russ Smith averaged 1.5 points on just 4.4 minutes a game. I bet your asking now how does a guy last season go from averaging 4.4 and 1.5 points per game to averaging 61.4 points per game and even dropping 81 points in a single game. Well... Russ was demoted to the D-League (now the G-League) and how did he bounce back? His first game he had 65 points a NBA G-League record. In only 21 games Russ Smith was averaging 28.1 ppg. After a couple ridiculous games in the G-League Russ went pro in Turkey where he didn't seem to like it so he went to the Chinese league. So far he's only played 5 games he has a 62, 66, and an 81 point game. His lowest points scored in a single game is 42 points. Along with Russ's 81 points he had 8 boards, 7 assists, and 5 steals. If that's not good enough Russ led his team to a 142-130 win. Still not impressed? Russ was incredibly efficient where he was 15/26 (57%), 10/17 from three (58%), and 21/22 from the free throw line (95%). Do you think Russ Smith has the potential to make an NBA comeback? Since Smith has left the league he's gotten much better as a player. Is it a dream or reality of the comeback?
